Pokemon Go Research Seminar and Round Table during FRED Week (Futures, Research, Employability and Direction) at SHU

October 25, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

| Free

Participants in order of presentation: Dr Ruth Deller (SHU), Prof Steven Benford  (U.Nottingham), Julia Higginbottom (Innovation Consultant) Chair: Dr. Joan Ramon Rodriguez-Amat (SHU)

The roundtable brings together three speakers that visit the phenomenon of Pokémon Go from three different angles: Dr Ruth Deller, as a media scholar from Sheffield Hallam University; Julia Higginbottom, as an Innovation Consultant regarding the game as a PR opportunity in regards to all organisations from Local government to NGO’s and businesses and Professor Steve Benford, University of Nottingham, with a view to the game from a technological and Mixed Realities perspective. After a brief introduction to the relevance of the Pokémon Go phenomenon for Media and Communications research, the three experts will speak for around 20 to 25 minutes and discuss afterwards while taking questions from the audience. The event is an opportunity to highlight the diverse research and discussion possibilities emerging from one single event, while also pointing at the combination of timeliness, innovation and theoretical research with which the Media and PR studies at SHU are currently engaged. Research is, of course, one of the aspects of the week on Futures Research Employability and Direction (FRED).
